General outline
· All courses support FTS, SD, Young Adults, but the focus of the Science courses will be Year 11 FTS with a clear goal
· maximum student flexibility and choice with teacher direction. All students can choose any topic in the matrix.
· teacher allocation by interest (Choice has BY/CH/PH/SC/AG/HT options plus Hunting and Fishing, Motor Vehicle, Sports Science etc. these allocate teachers with an interest in this area but do not tie a student to a fixed programme)
· some standards have more support
· initial planning is working on 1 topic per credit to maximise work returns and student engagement, we will reduce this by re-using the flexibly written topics as much as possible
· all topics have learning materials:
o reading/writing (in booklet and on-line)
o video clips
o audio clips
o practical activities (equipment sent with topic)
o assessed activities some of which provide evidence towards NCEA standard
o authentic, open-ended tasks where viable
o clear learning intentions and student reflection
· all topics have supervisor and teacher support materials
o student feedback proformas and assessment schedules with exemplars /benchmarks
o advice to supervisors
o information for teachers – this could form part of a manual for level 1 Science teachers
